James Mager is an articled student at Gratl & Company. James is particularly interested in environmental, criminal, and international law. He is excited to challenge and explore the orthodoxies of the Canadian legal system alongside the Gratl & Company team.
James received a JD degree from the University of Victoria in 2024. At UVic he led the Environmental Law Club, sat on the Environmental Law Centre Society’s Board of Directors, and was actively involved in harm reduction and safer substance use advocacy on campus. He gained experience in environmental law working at one of BC’s best environmental law boutique firms and in criminal defence at the leading criminal litigation firm in Victoria, BC.
James is an avid cyclist and skier, and is undertaking the (humbling) process of learning piano.
