Toby Rauch-Davis joined Gratl & Company as an Associate Lawyer in September 2017 after articling with the firm. Since joining Gratl & Company, Toby has gained significant trial and appellate experience as a litigator on complex civil and criminal matters, appearing in all levels of Court in British Columbia and acting as co-counsel in a successful intervention at the Supreme Court of Canada in R. v. Zora, 2020 SCC 14.
Toby maintains a broad civil and criminal practice, taking on an array of matters with varying facts, issues and degrees of complexity. Toby is especially interested in civil cases with a criminal or constitutional underpinning.
Toby takes a results-oriented approach to his litigation practice with an understanding that certain matters will require aggressive action while other matters require a more nuanced approach, including a focus on negotiated outcomes. Toby is equally interested in working towards an advantageous settlement for his client as much as a favourable trial result. Ultimately, Toby dedicates his practice to advancing his client’s interests in a practical, timely and cost-effective manner.
Toby graduated from Thompson Rivers University in 2016. He enjoyed academic success as a member of the faculty’s Dean’s List and was selected as an editor for the faculty’s Canadian Journal of Comparative and Contemporary Law.
Toby is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia. In his spare time, Toby enjoys skiing, cycling and is an avid guitar player.
