Lydia Young

Lydia Young joined Gratl & Company in 2024 after articling with an esteemed boutique firm in Victoria, BC. As an articling student, Lydia gained experience in various areas of law, including environmental, natural resources, property and constitutional law. Lydia worked with the litigation team in La Rose, a Charter claim brought by youth across Canada against the Canadian government for its contributions to climate change. She acquired extensive litigation experience in forestry law and resource governance by providing litigation and research support for a 64-day trial at the BC Supreme Court. Lydia also has experience in Indigenous co-governance, land use planning and wildlife management.

Lydia received her JD from the University of Victoria (’23) with a Concentration in Environmental Law and Sustainability. Throughout law school, Lydia volunteered as the program coordinator of the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law Biodiversity Program. Lydia attended the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Convention on Biological Diversity Conference of Parties as an academic delegate. She is also co-author of two chapters of the Routledge Handbook of Climate Law and Governance (forthcoming 2025).

Lydia is a member of the Law Society of BC and the Canadian Bar Association. She has experience at the BC Supreme Court and BC Court of Appeal.

In her free time, Lydia enjoys playing squash and hiking with her fiancé and rescue dog, Gela.
